Health Benefits

Our European counterparts have been shouting about the positive physical and metal health benefits of hot and cold therapy for generations. At the Hot Rocks Sauna we are excited to offer you these while showcasing our own little slice of the world.

Cardiovascular health

Frequent sauna use can mimic mild exercise which releases endorphins. This has been shown to reduce the risk of Strokes, lower blood pressure and improve your overall cardiovascular health.

Respiratory disease

Regular sauna use can reduce your chances of catching a cold and can relieve symptoms of Asthma and Pneumonia.

Chronic fatigue and pain

Hot and cold water therapy creates a natural pain relief effect, which can aid in disorders such as Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Headaches and Back Pain.

Mental health

Just one session can benefit to your mental health which can lead to improvements to your mood, sleep quality and a reduction in the stress hormone Cortisol, which has been linked to anxiety, depression and stress.

Dementia and Alzheimers

Studies have shown that individuals who sauna regularly are 50% less likely to develop Dementia and Alzheimers compared to those who don’t.

About us

We are Jacek and Andrea, one half Polish and the other Northern Irish. We are the creators of The Hot Rocks Sauna.

A few years ago on one of our regular trips back to Poland to see family and friends we were invited to try a family member’s local hand built sauna.

After we experienced this unique styled sauna and the rewards gained from it, we knew we had to bring it back home for others to enjoy.

Ever since we have been trying to promote the sauna lifestyle in our own beautiful landscape.

So after thinking and designing we decided to take the plunge so to speak, and built our own sauna.

  • Flip flops/sandals to wear in-between going into and out of the Lough or our Cold Dip.
  • Water to keep you hydrated.

Communal sauna guests will need to wear swimwear whilst using the sauna.

Private hire guests if they wish, are welcome to sauna in the traditional way. However, you will need to cover up once outside as our sauna is in a public area.

Do not wear creams/lotions/tan prior to entering the sauna, as these can run and cause your pores to get blocked.

Sit on a clean towel while in the sauna. This will keep you clean and comfortable, while protecting the sauna benches from our natural body oils.

We provide a sand timer for your session, please turn it upside down when you begin as it is recommended you only sauna for between 5-15 minutes at a time to get the most of the experience. Always start the timer again upon returning to the sauna.

To increase the temperature of the sauna pour only the provided sauna water on the hot rocks, nothing else.

Please drink lots of water before, during and after your sauna session to avoid dehydration.

If at any point during your session you begin to feel unwell please leave the sauna immediately and let a member of staff know.

When your time is up please exit the sauna, with all of your belongings and either jump in your car or proceed to the changing pod provided.

It is recommended you wait 10 minutes before any strenuous activity after your session.
